about

Something simple shatters my perception of time and space. Thought I knew about real life. A woman pries up the surface and encourages me to revisit a hero. Yeah, I learn to love abstraction, but I still like listening to roots, tunes. You know, like playing along with Benny Golson. A few sprints and I’m beat. Need to regenerate, even sleep. Like a kid who can’t pace himself. In a moment of exhaustion, try to find things I didn’t notice before. Misspellings and sequencing errors. It’s not the usual nonsense and jargon. More like genuine moments of clarity. Reality. Let me understand. Look for clues, recreate. Go with my gut. Anything I can, whatever. Objects. Slowly, I make my way back to lyricism but can’t shake that new, funny energy. I think I want to hear a lament, a song. Isn’t that the blues? Straying a little too far again. Fight through the noise. Bite into the piercing void. Speed and light. In the end, it’s empty space that really flourishes. How can that be? Close my eyes and try hard to listen. It’s true I don’t always listen. Even silence is something.
